About The Band
The National Academic Symphonic Band of Ukraine is a bridge between academic tradition and the music that today's listeners love.
The State Symphonic Band was established in 1979 on the initiative of the Composers’ Union of Ukraine, by a decision of the Government of Ukraine (Resolution of the Council of Ministers of the Ukrainian SSR No. 488 of October 12, 1979, “On the State and Measures for Further Improvement of Concert Services to the Population of the Republic”).
To this day, the ensemble remains the first and only civilian symphonic band of this level and status in Ukraine. The creation of the State Symphonic Band was aimed at enriching the artistic palette of national culture, promoting the best examples of classical musical heritage, and advancing the academic genre of wind music in Ukraine.
The band was the first among creative ensembles to record the National Anthem of Ukraine, which was broadcast every morning by the National Radio Company. These recordings have been included in the archives of the Public Broadcaster and have been released in Poland, the Czech Republic, Germany, and the Netherlands. The ensemble also took part in recording the soundtracks for the films “Vladyka Andrey” (2008) and “Ukrainian Revolution” (2012).
